“FOR AND AGAINST” ESSAYS

In " for and against" essays there are three main points to consider:

  • The structure: It is formed by an introduction where opinions don't inflence it; a main body where you write for and against points with justification and separated pharragraphs; At the end you include a closing pharragraph where you can give your opinion but always in a balanced way.
  • Points to consider: Make a list with every for and against point, write its justification and don't use informal language, remember that you're writting an essay.
  • Use of linking words or phrases: If you use linking words on your essay you will give it more coherence between the ideas you are trying to explain, for example: one major advantage/disadvantage of, one point of view in favour of/against/on the other hand, however, in spite of, while, nevertheless, despite, even though, although, it can be argued that

I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT SONG

I can tell by your eyes that you've prob'bly been cryin' forever,
and the stars in the sky don't mean nothin' to you, they're a mirror.
I don't want to talk about it, how you broke my heart.
If I stay here just a little bit longer,
If I stay here, won't you listen to my heart, whoa, heart?

If I stand all alone, will the shadow hide the color of my heart;
blue for the tears, black for the night's fears.
The star in the sky don't mean nothin' to you, they're a mirror.
I don't want to talk about it, how you broke my heart.
If I stay here just a little bit longer,
if I stay here, won't you listen to my heart, whoa, heart?
I don't want to talk about it, how you broke this ol' heart.

If I stay here just a little bit longer,
if I stay here, won't you listen to my heart, whoa, heart?
My heart, whoa, heart.

Differences between Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous

In contrast with the present perfect simple tense, which emphasizes the result of a completed action, the present perfect continuous tense focuses on the duration or the activity itself.
Another difference between these two tenses is that the present perfect simple might refer to a habitual action over an incomplete period of time.
If the present perfect simple is used for an action which started in the past and is still in progress in the present, a time expression is needed, while the present perfect continuous can be used with or without such an expression.
